Pottery

Pottery is the art of drawing and coloring pottery, then glazing and drying it in the sun, and finally firing it for eleven hours, a slow but satisfying process. It is one of those jobs that are part of the culture and tradition. In Níjar we can find a neighborhood that for many years was home to hundreds of potters who were the economic engine of the region. However, precisely because of the slowness of the process coupled with the lack of their own workshops and lack of successors, there is less and less dedication and generational change, with fewer artisans continuing to practice their craft. For this reason the HANTAM project was created, which aims to document with the help of potters from different parts of the province of Almeria where it is still maintained, how pottery was made centuries ago.
